Marc, Pete, Hans, & other Infinity owners: Do you use the cams? Do you like the more/less than hard cams? What size sails are your Infinitys? Anybody using Powerex masts with these? Thanks!

RE/

5.4, 6.6, and 7.8 all rigged on a PowerEx 460 skinny.

I use the cams most of the time.

The only times I don't use cams are sometimes when I go out cruising/fooling around in sub-planing conditions. In that case, I find the sails easier to handle without cams.

Another thing that impresses me about the Infinities over the previous convertables I had is the ease of switching between cammed and camless.

On the Infinities, you re-insert the same batten into an entirely separate slot. On the other sails, you re-inserted a different batten into a common slot that branched about a foot from the luff. Getting it into the right branch intruduced a (albiet minor...) PITA factor. And, of course, you never had that special camless batten handy where the sail was being rigged.

Hey Jerry, I sail my Infinities mostly cambered but have used all but the 9.5 camless. I have not sailed the bigger models in strong winds but I notice that I don't point as well (using a long board) when camless as I do cambered. The sails feel as fast but this is subjective- never clocked them with the GPS as I had hoped to do. On the smaller Infinities I feel the performance is the same but then I'm on a short board in stronger winds. Obviously, they rig easier when camless. The only hard cam sails I owned were a Neil Pryde V8 and a big Gaastra 4 banger (used- model name unknown) and I did not like they way they rigged or sailed. I have been using skinny masts (EZZY's ) in all my Infinities and I recently picked up a 490 skinny for the 7.8 on up. I had a chance to sail that in the 9.5 a few times and on the 7.8 this weekend. My wife does not enjoy rigging with a skinny so I bought her a Powerex 430 to use when she rigs her own 5.4. She loves that sail a lot. I'm disappointed that Hans has some sail damage in the monofilm window on his Infinity (Later post) . I have not had any of mine rigged as many times as his so I wonder if there will be a trend when mine get old. Read you later, Marc

Thanks for the good feedback on Ezzy. I'm interested to hear what happens with Hans' problems.
