Just got this in my email inbox - was a real treat. Hope some of you might enjoy and appreciate the 'pinnacle' of the sport as reported by the other 'man'. IMO, of course

Just read the Fiji report; pretty sweet.

Enjoy.

Nicest thing about driving is being able to nail a swell...hard to throw a dart at the calendar , buy a ticket, fly somewhere and score waves...our buddy Alan White is getting spanked with the flattest week

essentially dead flat...Friday and Sat. look like good pulses, as does most of next week...he may have gotten a little thermal wind, it's a long way to go , to just windsurf without waves...and it even rained here yesterday (first time since mid-February) with cutoff low pressure cell...not good for wind until it clears out...today or tomorrow... I can day trip...leave at midnight...sail at noon...so I ALWAYS get waves and have NEVER been skunked...

I did notice that it looked extreamly flat down there.

Maybe Kevin has a Formula board he could try or something.

You are fortunate to live so close. It takes me an extra day than you. Also much planning with arranging my schedule etc.. I do have some flexability to delay or leave earlier if needed but I pretty much have a certain time period. One time I was able to spontaniously go when I saw the Sswell comming from way down under. It was perfect I arrived in the evening to a flat ocean, slept well and woke up to the awsome sight of that long distance swell and a nice breeze. This spring I can only go in early April or end of March. I try to plan it so I can have at least one week (out of two) without the SOLO crowd. I see that Wyman will be there while I am there but I am not sure he is doing kite clinic, just windsurf instruction, or both. Looks like the kite thing will be in mid April, this might not be a good time to go.

Should be entertaining and no problem at all on the waves down at the point for surfsailing. As you know...April=high winds=mucho problemas for a kiter...4.0m2 sideoff, logo to mast high swell and high tide with cliffs and no beach...Punta Canoas as a landing point a day away by car is no picnic...last time it was like that with swell, I rescued at least a dozen kiters and windsurfers. Some places are meant to be wavesailed...some will learn the hard way. Not everyone is a Chuck Patterson or Chris Wyman...Peter Trow won't be giving his 2 clinics this year as his foot is all busted up from mistiming an off the lip. You don't even want to think about looooooooooong swims in cold Spring water with el tiburon grandes...the wind turns more and more offshore the further you drift...no bueno on a kite. The pescadores will be making money for rescues. PSC is not good for jumping with gusty rotors...boards break, lines and fins snap. Getting hurt a long way from a hospital...is it worth it? I know 2 sailors who have broken necks, countless legs and ankles...biffing on a mountain bike or dirt bike can turn into an ordeal.

There's always the afternoon wet t-shirt contest or chess. Dave, you can take the pins out of the voodoo doll, it worked?

Wardog have you tried kiting there?

Everyone I know who has said it was great (these guys are nuts however and they are 'Born Again' as you would say). I will take the kite gear but I also have a new light wind wave board I am excited to try out there. I will kite if the sailing is real lame (light & no swell) and if there is room.

Ok Wardog,

You're making me hungry again. Stop it please! At least until there's another big swell... 'Day Tripper' ) (although I think it's your turn to drive right?)

You boyz on the East Coast have gotta take a shot at it this year!!! We'll have a good idea at least a week prior - gotta setup for a last-minute dash to Cali... we can meet you in San Diego!! (Or you can just charter a plane and fly you and your gear right to the 'spot'...oh no, Wardog would just cringe if that happened - wayyy too gucci Driving is half the fun.

i guess i've got some bad karma following me around. seems over the past year i've been skunked about half the time. there were a few days that had great swell but dying off-shore winds - knowing how to surf would've come in handy. gonna solve that problem this year.

weedfin, the only pins i've seen of late were placed in my hand a couple of days ago. true, the old, selfish dave would've secretly wished that his his friend get skunked out of jealousy. but new and improved dave wishes no ill towards anyone - unless they come back telling stories of epic conditions never to appear again.

i just hope alan will want to go back again this summer. my guess is that he'll opt for his old reliable pistol river/cape sebastian.

besides........he may be traumatized by the non-sailing activities. wet t-shirts on an all-male trip........yikes.
