whoah!! what is that 'one thing' that you think it can only mean?? have you considered your board is getting warm, and when you put the plug in before taking it into the cool water, the shell shrinks a tiny bit which creates a minmal pressure you perceive as a slight hiss?

there are relatively inexpensive ultra sonic testers ($175 at harbor freight), or methane/propane/natural gas sniffers that measure to less than 3 parts per
