It came with what looks like a Curtis 38cm slightly-swept back - which works pretty well, but is singing it's little heart out.....so I guess I'm up for three fins: straight-up replacement for the 38, one smaller, and one larger (for 7.5 use).

Probably ought to get the same Curtis design in all 3....but thought I'd troll a little for alternatives.

I've been using the PowerBox version of WarDog's 13.5' on another board and like it for 7.5.....any hope for it on the Carve?

Other fins?

Hi Pete: The singing can be eliminated very easily. Get a sanding block, with 400 grit wet/dry abrasive paper on it. Set the block at about a 45 deg. angle to the trailing edge of the fin. Go up and down the trailing edge a few times and the singing should stop. If not, take your wet sanding block and lay it on the rear of the fin at the same angle as the rear foil on the fin. A few strokes to take out any 'hollows' just ahead of the TE should fix the singing. Then fold a piece of 400 over the rear edge of the fin and put a small radius on it, or go back to the 45 deg. sanding block.

This usually quiets down the huge formula fins and should be real easy on the small Curtis 38. Yes, I'm pretty sure that there's a Wardog 13.5 or 14' fin with a Tuttle base that will work very nicely. I use the stock 38 with a 7.5 all the time and it works very nicely. Hope this helps,

RE/

I'll give it a try. SB wind tomordrow.

Would go today, but played hookey yesterday and gotta do at least a *little* work this week.

On a tangent: My only regret about buying the Carve 123 on Sunday is that I didn't buy one the first day they came out.

From my perspective, it ranks with the Flow 284 and a ProTec giant slalom as one of my three most-favorite boards. Totally, completely different from the Flow; but outstanding for my use: super loose, planes in a heartbeat, just enough floatation - but not too muchr, turns like a champ.....

I use a 42cm and a 45cm True Ames Sweeper on my Carve 123. I usually run the 45cm fin with my 7.5 and the 42cm with my smaller sails. The Sweeper gives great upwind performance without sacrificing turning ability. I ordered my fins from Big Winds and had them the next day.

Enjoy
