You need to spray older kites with waterproofing spray on a regular basis to keep them dry. Kite fabric loses it's water shedding properties quickly.

There are 2 ways to preinflate. One is to hold the bridles right at the kite and fly it overhead. The other, and my choice, is to weight the trailing edge with enough sand that you can pull the lines tight, from the bar, the kite will sit upright, but still on the beach, weighted by sand, and preinflate about 70%, which is good enough to fly. Use light tugs to bounce the kite a little, testing it to see if it's ready to fly yet. If not, wait a little longer, kite standing up, still weighted by sand.

I bought a used F1 6.5 ATK and am having the darndest time launching it. I can't seem to get it inflated enough to get the shape to get airborne. I know I have enough wind because on the rare occasion I actually get it aloft it is quite a sporting experience. Can I play with the bridle or will that mess it up too much? Also when it gets wet it is impossible to relaunch. Should I spray some scotch-gard on it or will it hurt the fabric? Any help would be appreciated I want to get this kitesurfing stuff going but need to be able to fly my kite first!! TIA Kirk.
