It appens to me a couple years ago and I was sure I did let the board dry enough before repairing. But there was still water inside and under the sun the board split open because of inside pressure.
Now every board I buy, I put it on the scale (bare board) And I write down the weight. Last year I broke another board. Looking at the weight, I knew there was still water inside. So I delayed the reparation (actually I did not repaired it yet, but I'm pretty sure it's now dry as a bone).
Don't take the advertised weight; as far as I know ALL boards companies are cheating on this...
Of course I own a good quality scale and it's properly calibrated...
But perhaps it takes so little water that I'm doing this for nothing? What do you think?

says...
What is the resolution of your scale? What is the accuracy and repeatability? Do you calibrate it regularly? How much water (vapor) would it take to cause a problem with expansion? How much water (liquid) would it take to make that much vapor? It only takes 18g of liquid water to generate 22.4L of vapor, assuming it all vaporized. Is my chmistry correct here? Been a long time.
My guess is that you are wasting your time, especially if there is any sand in the mast track, fin boxm foot straps/covers.

and up to 1 1/2# of water in padz & foot straps for a day or two after you've been sailing.... My board scale reads to 1/100 of a pound, so I can tell if a board has taken on gross quantities of water. For the truly accurate assessment of water content, I will hook the board up to the vacuum (15inHg or so), then put ear to board: if there is even the slightest trace of water within, it will gurgle. Traces too small even for my moisture meter will still be detectable this way

That's right Glenn, One mole of liquid will expand to 22.4 L of gas. Hmm, ......if I ate two pounds of beans and corn.............

Rather than weigh my new boards what I do is balance them front to back by using 1 finger on each side of the board. I then mark it with a sharpie and write down the measurement. Do this with no fin or footstraps. If you start to take on any water at all this balance point should change dramatically. Dave
