Hi

I fancy adding a bit of promotional wording on my Flexifoil for tax purposes, but what do I use?

I found some DYLON fabric paint, but it wants ironing on 'very hot for 1-2 mins' to fix permanent. Mucho scorchio!! That will wreck the fabric to a cornflake for sure. Obviously I need to be careful of not damaging the material, not stiffening or adding unnecessary weight.

Any tips or advice?

Thanking you in advance, Paul

I dont know where you're located but check out craft shops or artists supply for airbrush paint made by Createx or Medea that are acrylic based. You'll need an adhesion promotor that is mixed in with the paint just so it binds real well on the fabric. Spray on thin light coats and it will work fine. Stays flexible and permanent.

I'd stretch out the kite on a board. Tape it up tight behind. Use good quality masking tape to mask off your image/logo. Rub down well and spray. You would also get vinyl masks cut on paint mask vinyl at a sign shop which is a lot easier if you're got intricate logos and type. Dont use regular sign vinyl for the mask, hard to remove. You can get masking material (Frisket) if you want to cut your own but for obvious reasons, I wouldn't recommend cutting your mask ON the kite

good luck.

I have been using Createx for several years to apply logos to my kites (Badger fabric paint also works well). I got bored cutting Frisket so I went to a print shop and got them to run me off a length of laminating material that I used to cut a permanent template. I spray the back of the template with SprayMount and then, once it has dried enough, stick it to the ripstop. Do the airbrushing, and as soon as the paint is dry, remove the mask VERY carefully. Finally, I iron on the paint using a sheet of silicone paper (baking parchment) on top. Use a cool iron that will not scorch or melt the fabric (test a scrap first). A light coat of paint does not seem to come off but a thick one will.

Good luck.
