Hi everybody,

I will be moving from CA to NOLA beginning of March and want to get into Kite Surfing.

As a Windsurfer, my frustration got so big lately, watching the Kite surfers (al lot of former windsurfers) ripping the waves, while I am standing on the beach.

I always wanted to learn it, but never really had enough time, especially as I became a Dad a year ago.

I hope to be able to find somebody, a group or a good school, that can teach me on Lake Pontchartrain.

Thank so much for your help,

Stefan

Hi Stefan, congratulations on becoming a dad a year ago and, welcome to the forum. I hope you will like it here.

I know what you're talking about. Except.... (since I'm not American), what is NOLA?

Stefan, I'm originally from the Netherlands but am living in Israel for a long time already.

Ahhhhh.... yes. I can see it now. But only after you told me

Aren't your New Orleans friends envious in you venturing out to CA and going to enjoy kite-surfing? Or are they looking forward to having a place to go to (you) and spend great holidays?

Hi Stefan,

You have any luck finding kitesurfing lessons? I'm also newly arrived in Nola, also a European transplant, also newly a Dad, and also looking for kitesurfing lessons (or windsurfing for that matter).

Closest I've found is a school in Fort Walton www.liquidsurfandsail.com who offer both. Might head out there some time in the next couple weeks, let me know if you feel like a road-trip.

Hi again Stefan,

I have the number of two instructors, one in Gulfport MS and one in Dauphin Island AL. The latter sounds like the place to aim for to learn, winds are more consistent.

Apparently the winds are a little light to learn this time of year so I'm holding off booking a lesson until November. Let me know if you want to join or want phone numbers.

Cheers,

Nick

HI to all! Welcome to NEW ORLEANS, NEW AWLINS.....

I just made a quick trip to Fountanbleu state park in Mandeville. there is a small park with a beach. the wind was perfect and a decent area to launch from.

I have been living in Spain for the past 16 years the kite surf capital, I have been around the water sports since i was a child.
I want to open a kite school with safety as my first concern, I taught kitesurfing in Spain in my free time.

I can meet with all of you one day, in new orleans. Do any of you have knowledge of any kite surf spots around town or within 1 hour?

questions:
1. do you own your own gear?
2. do you know how to swim?
3. have a wet suit?

hope to meet you all soon

Fontainbleu State Park is cool with kiteboarding, but look out for the submerged pilings. If the water is really low you can see where they are, but in normal water levels there are several pilings just below the surface (many are close to the end of the pier).

The beaches in Mississippi (like the Silver Slipper) offer a bigger place to learn.
