I have a bunch of old North Infinity sails in my garage (sizes 4.3 to 7.2), circa 1991. I have one Dynamic speed AL mast base (220 cm) and two flex top upper mast sections (200 and 240). My kids are now borrowing these sails, and I'd like to rig two of them at a time. Does anyone have a spare base to sell? Or, can I just use a constant curve mast for one of the sails? (There was a post on this forum suggesting that a constant curve mast works better for the smaller Infinity sails).
Thanks,
Norton E

These masts match your sails very well. The 4.3 can use a constant curve mast but will do much better overall with the proper North mast setups. I can't recall whether the AL Speed 220 bottom is the recommended bottom but it should be the right length with the 200cm top.
You want to avoid too much mast bend in the bottom section, particularly in the smaller sizes, since you will pull out too much shape below the boom and get a pretty twitchy feeling result. That's just the nature of flex top sails. A CC will bend more in the bottom section than a flex top or intermediate bend. You could try a combi-flex. Sailworks masts were like this back then. Fiberspar 'Purple Label' also were combi-flex as were some NoLimitz.
I suggest borrowing a modern CC 430 cm mast with a bend of 27MCS/23IMCS. That's pretty much a standard 430 constant curve. See how the sail feels compared to the 200cm section on top of AL Speed 220. You can determine if there's any improvement.
As for bases, try Tinho Dornellas at calema.com I know he converted his entire fleet to PosiLock bases and should have a billion Fiberspar standard bases lying around.
