I read in US News & World Report today that with proper development of windmill generators there is enough wind in North Dakota to provide 36% of America's energy needs.

No, that is not a typo. That is what it said in the magazine (current issue). I was amazed that one state had enough wind to generate over 1/3 of the electricity needs of our country.

Of course, I was more intrigued by the recreational possibilities. Are there any bodies of water in N. Dakota where a windsurfer could exploit these apparently remarkable wind conditions? Is the water cold? When is it windy? Etc. Is it windy only in the summer? Or in the winter (in which case kite powered snowboarding conditions might be ideal there)? Or year round?

Obviously there is a hell of alot of wind in your state. This is something we need to explore. Hope somebody can shed some light!
