I found a used OBrien Excellerator for sale for US$217. Includes board, sail, mast, boom, fin, center board, foot straps. It looks to be in good shape. Sound like a good price?

The seller didn't know what the displacement was. Does anyone know?

Does anyone have contact info on the mfgr? I checked the web but only found this place selling water skis. Nothing about windsurf gear.

Well, The board hasn't been made for atleast 10 years and if you break or lose any of the parts like the mast track or daggerboard you are SOL. This is a heavy polyethlene board that probably weighs over 45 lbs. It is probably around 200-230 liters. This kind of plastic can also become brittle with age especially if left outside. So I guess I am being a little negative. So, if you only plan to use it a couple of times a year and the kids paddle it around, for 200 bucks, probably not to bad. If you want to actually learn to windsurf and plan the use it alot, I would save a little more money and get something better. Then, the fun factor goes up and the learning curve becomes faster. RON

I second Ron's opinion, and agree with is qualifiers about how much you intend to use it and how much you can afford to pay. If you want to get better, go with something lighter, newer and better. In my opinion, much of the O'brien stuff was low quality when new (I owned my fair share of it when I was in high school).

Don't get this board if your intention is to windsurf. It is ridiculously heavy, and not much fun. We had one around as a 'beginner board' and nobody liked it. I myself enjoy getting on big dumb old boards, but this board was the least fun of anything I've ever been on. Michael

That is too much money for that board. Come to the Evanston Windsurfing Association swap meet this spring and you will find lots of stuff to choose from - sold by people who have a clue about their stuff.

It's too heavy to use as a drag board, unless it's going to be put down in one spot and never moved. I've got friends on Long Island who have tried to sell an Excellerator for $50 for the last two years. Nobody wants it.
