Quebec City (St. Laurence River) can get pretty gnarly when a Noreaster blows against the current. Check out these pics, especially nos. 9 and 11!

Louis,

Looks great. What was the windspeed for that day? How often do you get days like that?

Unfortunately I was in Montreal at the time. I believe that the windspeed was around 35 knots as Gustav hung out in the eastern Gulf of St. Laurence.

They definitely get more than their fair share of wind in Quebec City, zee bastards. However, they can only sail the better launches when the wind is blowing against the tide (SW on a rising tide and NE on falling tide). They sometimes get skunked on a windy day because the tides are out of sync. An 8-10 foot swell and some standing waves can be found on the big days. The following link (in French) has details and directions. You can also consult the December 2001 issue of Wind magazine.

PS: Someone added a few pics to the site so the indexes have changed a bit. Photos from the PWA event just held in the Magdelan Islands will be posted over the next few days.

Cheers, Louis
