I think I have had with loading the gear into/onto my car. Can anyone give me some ideas on what would make a good pickup truck for windsurfing?

Ideally, I would like to be able to lock everything in the bed and carry a bike or two at the same time.

Do I need a fullsize pickup with 8ft bed or could I get away with a shorter bed and lay the long stuff from corner to corner?

Thanks,

This is mu setup. http://www.windvisions.com/my-surfmobile.html

I have to lay my 6.6 diagonal as well as my booms. If you have longer gear you may want to look at full length beds. Mine is only about 5-1/2' long. Other than that I like my arrangement. I used to have a Dodge Caravan.

Glenn,

Wow!! That is a pretty awesome setup!! I wish I had seen that when I had my S-10 pickup. I am currently designing a trailer for my winter project. That will keep me busy and hopefully give me plenty of room for all my stuff.

Thanks for the great pictures!

I would agree however I'd probably do it all over again because I did not want the full sized truck but I wanted plenty of room inside. Having a 6' bed would have been great.

I can speak for a tonneau cover. A one-piece like I have will prevent you from reaching those items up front, especially the bulky ones. There are multi-piece covers which allow you side access up front and end access from the rear. You'd be better off with one of those but what I have works for me now that I've already bought mine.

The split covers are available on Ford Rangers which do come in 8 foot bed lengths.
