I found a print shop that will print me sail numbers. I have a question though about the size of the numbers. I think a height of 30cm would be fine. But I don't know about the length. I have a Windsurfing Canada paper that gives the specifications, it says minimum height of 30cm and a width of each letter of 20cm. I have 6 numbers plus a space between CAN and 900. That would make it around 140cm. I'm worried if it's going to fit on my smaller 5.4 NP soul (1999) and 6.0 Hot sails stealth. Do you have experience with numbers on smaller sails such as that? Is there anything to worry about that the numbers will be too long for the sail?

Thanks,

Thanks Jerry. Now, does anybody else have anything 'interesting' to share....lol

My 6.0 is probably like a 10.0 for u anyways. And when I got on my 8.5.........WOW, enjoy handling a 13m. I weigh like a 100lbs. Did pretty good though at the Eastern Canadian Formula Championchips IMO, won my first medal, not a lot of competition but I was proud of my racing.

Jerry (or anybody else) do you guys have experience with long numbers on 'small' sails.

Thanks, Phil

For your smaller sails, you don't usually need to worry about getting them all in a row. Take a look at pics of some of the numbering patterns of certain wavesailors and you'll see what I mean. Most alternatives arrange diagonally. You also might consider dropping the 'CAN' in favor of the shorter 'KC'. 3 letter insignias are required by the IOC for Olympic racing but almost never anywhere else. Check with your national racing org to see what's OK. I bet 'KC' is just fine and saves some precious real estate.

Why create all this dilemma? Just go to Murrays.com and order some sail numbers. They will fit any sail you have.>I found a print shop that will print me sail numbers. I have a question

Phil,

You can either drop the CAN alltogether, or alternatively switch to KC (old shortform, still being used by some people).

THere is a sail loft in Kingston that will cut them for you. It is called the Kingston Sailing Loft located on Rideau Street. I picked up a sheet of the material and chose to cut out my own letters and numbers. I am not sure yet how they will fit, but I printed them roughly 9-10' high (screw the standards) and using a nicer font than block letters. Keep in mind for the Canadians next week, we'd be lucky to get on anything less than 6.0. But you never know...
