My favorite is Lake Huron. It is good from northeast through to southeast (clocking through west). Sauble Beach and Kettle Point are well known locations on lake Huron- large swell can kick in when the wind has an onshore component. They are both about 250 km from Toronto so it's a pretty long drive for a day trip- worth it if you know it is going to blow for several days. There are many other spots on Lake Huron to sail between these 2 locations but they are less well known. Both the above locations have clean water so you can take a couple of gulps when you fall off Some of the other lakes/ areas- Sarnia (on Lake Huron but further south), Lake Ontario near Toronto, Hamilton, Lake Erie are more polluted unfortunately, but they are likely more practical for a shorter trip. Colligwood is good on a northwest wind. Sandbanks is also supposed to be good but I've never been.

Well, I've been to Lake Huron 3 years ago in summer (August- I think ) in Balm Beach for about a week. I've not practised windsurfing at that time yet but as far as I remember there was no wind at all! > Which months are the best for going there? Or maybe only this Balm Beach side is 'windless'??

Balm beach sounds like the right name for most places around Toronto in the summer unfortunately. Wind is the exception in the summer. Fall is a much better season for sailing. I sailed the last 3 days on lake Huron with 5.4 and 4.7 sail on Thursday, and 4.7 on Friday and yesterday. Yesterday AM was particularly tasty until it died off- getting near ocean- like- large breaking swells, good ramps- then it died.

Hi there,

There are a lot of great windsurfing sites near Toronto. Check out Toronto Windsurfing Clubs web site at www.torontowindsurfingclub.com . There is a link called 'local sailing' that lists all the local sites and the winds that they are best sailed in.

Hey if you're in the area why not come down to TWC and visit the club. It's a nice place to be out of the city.

Cheers,

Nick Cox
