I forgot to mention, my win was on a Formula 175 and Neil Pryde 9.8 RS1 so monster sails and the latest/greatest board were not required in the silver fleet.

The Gold fleet were using 11 meter sails and many were on 186/186X boards (some had 12.5 sails but were worried the wind would pick up too much).

The one race I came in second I was smoked to the finish line on the downwind leg. He passed me so fast I thought I was standing still!

The difference was that I was using the chicken strap and he stayed in the outboard rear strap. After talking with a few of the top gold fleet sailors they said that unless you are stupidly overpowered you should stay in the outboard straps, and keep in the 'sitting on the can' stance.
