A few dollars/euros/pounds spent on some lessons will save you plenty of time, effort and money. You will be using and abusing their kit, finding out what is good for you and then you can go and spend your wonga.
www.flexifoil.com have a very good forum on all kiting activities including beginners sections.
Save even more by buying a small Flexifoil 1.5 Bullet to learn the kite skills before your lessons if you are totally new. They are also very good for stormy days and mates learning with later. Stunning 4-liner will teach you plenty. A landboard would also help you with kite + board co-ordination and upwind trickery. You will learn so much faster, easier and cheaper. Then when you spend, you will be ready to use your kit to the max and get the most out of it.
Hope this helps, but it is just my thoughts and route to learning to kitesurf. Paul.
